The degree paper deals with everything that stinks and dirt. Emphasis is on the collection and disposal of faeces by toilets, septic tanks, purulent pits and sewage system. It also deals with the various wastes and what they have done with them. It includes abundunce of cases on how to remedy hygiene deficiencies. Literature examining similar topics was used in the production. The work is based on archival material, accessible and perfectly stored in the Historical Archive of Ljubljana. City Guard reports are the key. After the earthquake of 1895, the process of modernization and hygienisation was accelerated and much was achieved. Of course, they failed to solve everything. The stench was still there, especially on the outskirts of town. Residents had hard time getting used to cleanliness and needed more time to adjust.
