Project management was created by the need to meet the country's strategic goals set out in the Strategies and Resolutions. Project management involves the planning, execution and implementation of the set goals, which bring long-term positive changes for the country and the well-being of citizens. One of the features of Project management is implementing rapid changes. In my thesis I explored how the project work is organized within the national security system and if the methodology, which is used for implementing goals, is the same for the whole national security system and also how they determine the indicators of project effectiveness and efficiency. The subject of research was the Ministry of Defense and its bodies, the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Protection and Rescue, the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior and the Police. Interviews with project management experts at each authority helped me to reach realistic results. The research has shown that project management is also present within the regular work of employees and that there is no uniform methodology for managing national projects, which consequently also affects the determination of performance and efficiency indicators.
