Climate change is a major threat to humanity and the greatest challenge of our time. The objective of the thesis was to analyse in what way the movie Before the flood increases awareness of the viewer about climate change. First, I identified the climate change and the associated development paradigms that the film deals with, as well as defined the different approaches shown in the documentary film. The chosen documentary film depicts the actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio, who travels to five continents and the Arctic, where he meets with a variety of politicians, scientists, and witnesses of climate change, in order to disclose facts and the extent of climate change, while at the same time talking about possible solutions for it. I established in what way the film promotes climate change through its content, purpose, structure, models and methods (according to Bill Nichols), target audiences, distribution, political context, rhetoric, ideology and visual representation.
