Abstract

Title:Speaker's deviation from the prepared speech and its effect on the interpretation quality
Abstract:
It is imperative for the interpreter to prepare for their assignment, which is why it is also imperative that they receive relevant documents in a reasonable time. However, an issue arises whenever speakers deviate from the original text or even make mistakes. This thesis includes a research, which probed, whether such deviations affect the quality of the interpretation, and if they do, do they affect less experienced interpreters more than established professionals. The thesis is seperated in to a theoretical part, where key definitions are found, and a practical part, where we conducted a research and answered the question at hand. The results showed that the deviations almost equally affect both levels of interpreters – the differences were minimal. Our results proved that deviations do affect the quality of the interpretation to some extent, which was one of the main goals of this thesis. We wanted to show all relevant players what issues interpreters need to face when preparing or interpreting and assignment.
