Mahnici is a small village situated between Karst and Vrhe region in a narrow valley of Rasa river in southwestern Slovenia. It's climate is categorized as »hinterland submediterranean«. Storms often occur in late spring, summer and early autumn. This seminary paper describes the weather situation on 20- and 21/8/2014, the timeline of weather events at that time and the tornado development at around 2 AM on 21/8/2014. The paper confirms the tornado and describes it's path from Zgonik/Sgonico in Italy to Mahnici in Slovenia where it reached it's full strength. With the help of photographies, fieldwork during and after the event and the interviews conducted with local population, the tornado has been confirmed and also his strength was estimated based on the damage with Enhanced Fujita scale. In the last part of seminary paper, the suggestions for severe storms forecast in the future and an opinion of weather agencies readiness in Slovenia for severe storms and tornadoes are proposed.
