Mechanical pruning of apple trees many see essential in apple production. However, before it is put into use as a standard, a number of tests have to be carried out. In the years 2018 and 2019, we conducted an experiment on apple trees (Malus domestica Borkh.) at the Horticultural Center of the Biotechnical Faculty. We studied the responsiveness of the cultivar 'Gala' to a mechanical pruning. We researched how summer mechanical pruning effect on return bloom, further growth and fruit quality. The study consists of two treatments: a mechanical pruning (both sides of the row) and control. In the summer pruning was made in the year 2018 after harvest with machine FAMA CKP 250. The results of the study showed that the summer mechanical pruning did not significantly increase the number of flower clusters, but increased the number of fruits per tree. Mechanical pruning increased quantity of the yield for almost twice compared to the control, I. and II. class. Mechanical pruning did not affect the fruit quality except for the soluble solids content. According to the findings of the study, we recommended summer mechanical pruning, but it must be combine with thinning. However, for other cultivars we recommended additional research, because of the possible different response of cultivar on mechanical pruning.
