In this master's thesis we present analyzed cartographic symbols of tourist maps of different cities from Slovenia, Poland and Spain. Eight Slovenian, four Spanish and three Polish tourist maps were collected. We chose cartographic symbols (gas station, hospital / health center / pharmacy, religious facility, tourist information, museum, parking, theater) and created them in the open source Inkscape program. We designed a questionnaire to find out which factor most influences the recognition and understanding of cartographic symbols among users. Those factors can be: user experience, how the map character (symbol or letter) is displayed, or the environment from which the user comes from. The questionnaire was made for Slovenians, Poles and Spaniards, due to, it was created in Slovenian, Polish and Spanish language. We received responses from 355 interviewees, of which 188 Slovenians, 110 Poles and 57 Spaniards. In the master's thesis we set up three hypotheses, which were checked according to results of questionnaire.
