Abstract

Title:Slope processes in Grivče area
Abstract:
The area above Grivče is located in Vipava Valley near Ajdovščina, on the south edge of the Trnovo forest. Due to Mesozoic carbonates overthrusting Eocene flysch, there is a higher frequency of landslides in this area. The steep carbonate walls are very susceptible to weather conditions, resulting in scree accumulating on top of the flysch layers. This paper is focused on studying the slope processes above Grivče. Digital elevation models, extracted from LiDAR data, were used for the analysis of the slopes. There are five sedimentary bodies of different sizes, located over the slopes above Grivče. Habič (1968) noted, that the sedimentary bodies in the area above Ajdovščina were already constituted before sliding, therefore these movements are translational slidings, and the landslides that don't show any further movements are fossil landslides. Because of the vegetation and scree, that cover the landslides, there are no clear boundaries between them, therefore we can not determine whether these landslides happened as a consequence of one big event or as independent events. Under the sedimentary bodies Stara baba and Gradiška gmajna there are large blocks of breccia. The blocks under Gradiška gmajna and Stara baba are reaching river Hubelj and village Grivče, respectively. Both can be classified as a direct consequence of break down of the landslides or as a parallel event to the translational slides.
