The work focuses on the generative themes of the research camp which was realized in September 2016 in one of the Slovene social welfare institutions for adults. The planning process lasted throughout the year of 2016. The camp was organized by students and professors, mainly from the Department of Social Pedagogy of the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana, in cooperation with residents of the institution and some employees. One of the main purposes of the camp was to explore and create the conditions for deinstitutionalization, which is one of the crucial professional guidelines of social pedagogy and at the same time one of the major professional challenges.
The master's thesis is based on the theoretical framework about total institutions; deinstitutionalization; the concept of handicap; everyday life; the concept of life-oriented social pedagogy and dialogue.
The aim of the empirical work is to explore the generative themes of the camp which were highlighted through the participants’ group and individual reflections. The data obtained from them was used in the qualitative analysis. The work offers an insight into the analysis of the camp and potentially motivates new movements and creation of temporary communities which contribute to small steps in the direction of opening institutions.
