There are several types of hamsters known, among which is the golden hamster. The golden hamster is a small animal and is easy to keep, therefore it is often the choice for the first pet. The thesis presents housing conditions of the golden hamster and the recommendations for a cage equipment to provide the optimal ethological and physiological needs. Basic feed are nuts, seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables, but we also add animal proteins as the golden hamsters are omnivorous. The golden hamster is kept in cages. The cage needs to have the following basic equipment: a feeding tank, water supply, pipes, a spinning wheel and a house. For better comfort, we can also add sand bath and different types of treats. Various types of bedding can be used, such as hemp litter, sawdust, hay, cotton wool, shredded paper, etc. They are clean animals, and when decide to excrete, they choose a particular part in the cage. They also clean their coat themselves, so they do not need to be bathed. Because they are small, they cannot be allowed to move freely around the apartment as they can get stuck behind the elements or bite the cords. We must be careful when handling the hamsters, as they are small and can quickly get out of hands. If you want to release the golden hamster in the apartment, we use a plastic ball in which you put the hamster and close the door. The golden hamsters are solitary animals. If we have more hamsters, we have to make sure they stay in separate cages.
