Abstract
Diplomsko delo je sestavljeno iz dveh delov, in sicer iz teoretičnega in empiričnega. V teoretičnem delu sem se najprej osredinila na jezikovni razvoj, začetno opismenjevanje in razvoj sprejemanja besedila. Nadaljevala sem s postopkom pripovedovanja v vrtcu in na kratko opisala metodo branja v nadaljevanju. Nazadnje sem opisala še, zakaj je pomembno družinsko branje in na kaj morajo biti starši pozorni pri tem. Nekaj besed sem namenila tudi slovenskemu pisatelju Kajetanu Koviču, saj sem pri svojem projektu uporabila njegovo delo z naslovom Moj prijatelj Piki Jakob. V empiričnem delu sem na osnovi projekta predstavila razumevanje osnovnih literarnih pojmov pri predšolskih otrocih. S pomočjo ček liste sem preverila njihovo razumevanje osnovnih literarnih pojmov pred izvedenim projektom in po njem. Med projektom sem spremljala njihove spontane pogovore, ki so se navezovali na branje pravljice Moj prijatelj Piki Jakob, in ocenjevala njihovo motivacijo za poslušanje pravljice in sodelovanje pri nadaljnjih dejavnostih.

Title:Reading chapter books in kindergarten
Abstract:
This paper is composed of two parts: the theoretical and the empirical part. In the theoretical part, I first focused on language development, initial literacy and receiving text development. I continued with the process of narration in kindergarten and briefly described the method of reading chapter books. In the final part, I described why family reading is so important and what parents need to pay attention to. I also wrote a few words about the Slovenian writer Kajetan Kovič as his work titled My Friend Piki Jakob was used in my project. In the empirical part, I presented how preschool children understand basic literary concepts. By using a checklist, I checked their understanding of basic literary concepts before and after the project. During the project, I followed their spontaneous conversations connected to reading the fairy tale My Friend Piki Jakob; moreover, I evaluated their motivation to listen to the fairy tale and their participation in further activities.
