The possibilities for travel for elderly people have increased significantly in recent years. The range of leisure activities available to the elderly has also increased, therefore it is important to determine whether there are differences in tourist and leisure activities of the elderly living in an urban environment and the elderly in rural area. The first part of the seminar paper is theoretical and explains certain professional terms related to tourism and leisure, presents the basic characteristics of the demographic background in Slovenia and the basic characteristics of the two areas. The second part presents the results of a survey aimed at obtaining data on tourism and leisure activities of the elderly in the Municipality of Maribor and Slovenske gorice. The seminar paper concludes with a comparison of the findings in both areas.
