The thesis is studying the separation between the United Kingdom and the European union, which is also known as Brexit. To be more specific it is mainly focused on the cultural aspect of this separation. The first part contains the historic context of Brexit from the second world war on. In the first part it also includes a comparison to Henry the VIII's separation from the catholic church, which is in many ways similar to present day Brexit. In the next part there are interpretations of Brexit through cultural works from the past and present and also the opinions of people who work in culture and arts. At the end I will present the situation that evolves around the policies of the European union and the change of these policies in the United Kingdom after Brexit, that are directly or indirectly aimed at the arts and culture sector. I will also present the arts and culture sector of the United Kingdom and write about the possible consequences that the sector will suffer after the United Kingdom leaves the European union. Therefore, the goal of the thesis is finding out how Brexit will influence the arts and culture sector and the culture alone in the United Kingdom.
