Abstract

Title:Comparison of laser and TIG welding
Abstract:
We studied TIG and laser welding of tool steel 1.2379 and 1.2343 and made a comparison between them. We used TIG welding for 3 samples and laser welding for 10 samples. For each sample we used different welding parameters and conditions. We measured Vickers hardness of welds and heat affected zone for each sample. At laser welding we applied force of 200g, and at TIG welding a force of 300 g. We studied and compared measured results. We came to the conclusion that the measured hardness of TIG welding samples was lower inside the weld compared to the measured hardness in heat affected zone. At laser welding samples we concluded the opposite – measured hardness was the highest inside the weld, due to higher temperature gradients. Chemical composition of the weld, which is influenced by welding technology and composition of welding material and to some degree also by composition of base metal (because of metal mixing), has the biggest impact on obtained results.
