In the final seminar paper we examined the role of lower-level central settlements in a suburbanized area (Vodice municipality) in the Osrednjeslovenska region, where the gravitational influences of Ljubljana, Kranj and Kamnik intertwine. With the field survey (N=82) we wanted to analyse the habits (purchase of food, clothes, footwear, furniture) among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Vodice, as well as the habits regarding the provision of public and health services. Since the majority of the active population is employed in larger cities nearby, the municipality is characterized by daily work related migrations mostly linked to individual transports by car. The results highlighted the important role of local supply centres with food supply, education and health. In the case of specialized services, the surveyed population is highly oriented towards better equipped larger central settlements (here the prominent role of Ljubljana can be detected). Spatial, demographic and social changes shape the supply habits of the study area. Despite the positive migration balance over the past decades, the municipality's provision of central functions and services of general interest have not improved. By maintaining the core activities and adapting to the temporal and spatial patterns of daily migrants, the Municipality of Vodice would provide its inhabitants with a higher quality living environment.
