Abstract
Aronija (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott) je sadna vrsta, ki izvira iz Severne Amerike. Spada v družino rožnic (Rosaceae) in jo uvrščamo med jagodičje. Najpogosteje jo gojimo v obliki grma, lahko pa grm oblikujemo tudi v manjše drevo. Rastlina ni zahtevna, saj uspeva na vseh tipih tal, na sončnih legah, oviro pa ji ne predstavljajo niti nizke temperature ali sušne razmere. Plodovi so izredno trpki, zato za sveže uživanje niso zaželeni, možna pa je predelava v razne sokove ali čaje. Ko so zreli, plodovi aronije vsebujejo veliko hranilnih snovi, zaradi katerih je aronija poznana kot sadna vrsta z izredno visoko zdravilno učinkovitostjo. Aronijo pogosto uporabljajo tudi kot okrasno rastlino v vrtovih, saj se jeseni njeni listi obarvajo oranžnordeče. Cilj naloge je strniti z dosedanjimi raziskavami pridobljene informacije o aroniji in njenih plodovih s poudarkom na snoveh in zdravilnih učinkovinah, ki jih le-ta vsebuje. Plodovi aronije od sladkorjev vsebujejo glukozo, fruktozo in sorbitol. Po vsebnosti je glavna organska kislina citronska, v manjšem deležu je prisotna še jabolčna kislina. V plodovih so analizirali velike vsebnosti naslednjih vitaminov: vitamin C, B1, B2 in B6. Plodovi aronije so bogati s fenolnimi spojinami, predvsem z antocianini. V primerjavi z ostalimi vrstami jagodičja izstopa aronija po izredno veliki vsebnosti antocianinov. Zdravstvene študije poročajo, da uživanje aronije zagotovo prispeva k zmanjšanju pojava kardiovaskularnih bolezni, diabetesa in različnih rakavih obolenj.

Title:Phenolic compounds in the fruits of aronia (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott) and their effect on health
Abstract:
Chokeberry or aronia (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott) is native to North America. The genus belongs to rose family (Rosaceae) and is classified in the berry fruits. It is usually cultivated as a shrub, rarely as a tree. Aronia is cold hardy and heat tolerant and has no special soil requirements. It can be used for raw consumption, however due to its astringency, it is mostly consumed processed. The berries can be found in various products (tea, syrup etc.). When ripe, the berries contain a good portion of health promoting compounds (phenolic acids, anthocyanins, tanins, vitamins etc.). Additionally, aronia is also cultivated as ornamental plant, due to its appealing orange-red colouration of leaves in the autumn. The aim of our study was to review the research on aronia, with the emphasis on its health promoting compounds. The sugars found in the berries are glucose, fructose and sorbitol. The predominant organic acid in the berries is citric acid; malic acid is present in smaller amounts. Vitamins that are presented in high amounts are vitamin C, B1, B2 and B6. The berries are a reach source of phenolic compounds, especially anthocyanins. It is their high content that makes aronia berries stand out from the berries group. The clinical studies report on reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer with the intake of aronia products.
