Abstract

Title:ANALYSIS OF DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE
Abstract:
Discrimination in the workplace, just as other types of discrimination, is more subtle than noticeable. The people who have been discriminated against usually don’t want to talk about it, are ashamed or afraid. Some people already have a bad self-image and thus don’t even see the issue in discrimination. This research paper’s purpose is to identify the types of discrimination that people are subjected to in the workplace and the reasons behind it, recognize its consequences, find out who people turn to for help and why most people try to hide the problem. For the purpose of this paper a survey was conducted, meant for people, suffering from discrimination in the workplace or while looking for a job. The survey contains questions about who is causing the discrimination, why and how they are causing it, how it affects the victim and what they did, are doing or are planning to do about it. This assignment is based on a survey meant for victims of discrimination in the workplace or while looking for employment and uses true life stories from some of them. The research shows that most people are discriminated against by their superiors, which contradicts the hypothesis that most people are discriminated against by their colleagues. The hypothesis that most people impacted by discrimination don’t look for help is true, because they usually don’t want to expose themselves or don’t want to deal with the problem. The survey showed that most people are discriminated against because of their age, looks, gender or financial status. This paper is important for the community because it encourages people to be more open to the issue of discrimination, at some point it discusses measures that the victims can take to address these issues, it also describes the consequences of discrimination, and suggests some steps to reducing the problem.
