This bachelor’s thesis’ main objective is to analyze the course of national awakening in Lithuania and Czechia, much attention is also put on comparing the two national awakenings, searching for their similarities and differences. In the first part, the reader is acquainted with the main theories of nationalism and with the terminology that is used when analyzing them. Further on the main topics that had great impact on the national movement are discussed. The cultural and political life of the 19th century is presented as well as the relations between these two national groups and other groups living in the same state, including the relations between them and the central government. The lines are drawn from the beginning of the 19th century to the end of the World War I when both movements achieved their main goal – the emergence of the independent state.
