Abstract

Title:The use of nanomaterials for neuroprotectivity
Abstract:
The human population is geting older on average and because of this the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases is getting higher. Currently there is no known available for this type of disase. This is mainly caused by the fact that we can not enter the brain with potential therapeutics. Both facts lead to predictions that neurodegenerative diseases might overtake cancer as the leading reason of elderly death. Nanoparticles are a candidate to become the cure for this because of their small size. We could use them to cross the blood brain barrier themselves or to carry other therapeutics across. Nanomaterials represent a big specter of different substances so their potential usage is different. They can be used as antioxidants, as disease inhibitors or as a cure for the disease. Cherium oxide is highlighted as the most important nanoparticle antioxidant so far because it only requires one dosage as the particles possess the ability of regeneration. Researchers have already aquired numerous positive results with tests on model organisms and tissue cultures. Currently there are no researches taking place on humans as there is still a lot unknown about the potential toxic effect on the particles on human bodies. Nonetheless there are no known records of acute toxicity if the right dose of nanoparticles is being used so they represent a big hope of becoming the first therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.
