The purpose of this paper was to design a women’s clothing collection inspired by sportswear, more specifically the clothing and gear used by snowboarders, and to present the collection through a fashion editorial. This paper contains both the design phase as well as the final execution of the women’s collection Core.
Nowadays, fashion and sports are present in every corner of the world. Through them individuals show their creativity, uniqueness, confidence, and their personal sense of style.
The theoretical part of this theses presents the history of snowboarding, discusses and outlines the snowboarder lifestyle, describes the development of snowboarding as a sports discipline, and assesses the technological development of snowboarding gear and clothing. The theoretical part of this paper also includes a description of sports fashion brands whose focus is to create snowboarding gear, boards, and clothing. It focuses on brands and designers who have used winter sports as an inspiration for their collections and designs. This paper also contains descriptions of a street wear which has increasingly been inclining towards integrating sportswear and fashion.
The experimental part of this paper includes the process of designing this collection as well as the final execution of it. It consists of: the inspiration for the collection, the details traditionally used in snowboarding gear that were included in the collection, the target group for the collection, the colour palette, the materials used in the execution of the collection, fashion illustrations depicting the collection, and the technical drawings for the collection. The experimental part of this paper also includes the realization of the collection and an editorial of the finished clothing collection.
The result is a women’s fashion clothing collection named Core.
