Abstract
Teoretični del vsebuje razlago menstrualnega cikla in medikalizacije. Predstavljeni so vplivi farmacevtske industrije, neoliberalizma in potrošniške družbe na razumevanje menstrualnega cikla ter posledično na rabo kontracepcijskih tablet. Pojav medikalizacije se prepleta z enakopravnostjo žensk, zato je del teoretičnega dela namenjen feminističnem pogledu na kontracepcijo. Teoretični del se zaključi z predstavitvijo kontracepcijske tablete in njene zgodovine. Empirični del temelji na štirih pripovedih žensk o zdravljenju menstrualnega cikla z jemanjem kontracepcijskih tablet. Predstavlja njihovo doživljanje medikalizacije menstrualnega cikla in njihov pogled na hormonsko zdravljenje stanj v menstrualnem ciklu. Namen diplomske naloge je bil raziskati, kako ženske doživljajo svoj menstrualni cikel, kako vrednotijo medikalizacijo in kakšen odnos imajo do hormonskega zdravljenja stanj v menstrualnem ciklu. Pridobiti globlji vpogled v to, kako ženske same gledajo na vse bolj razširjen pojav medikalizacije na konkretnem področju.

Title:Medicalisation of the menstrual cycle
Abstract:
The diploma focuses on women who chose contraceptive pills to treat problems regarding their menstrual cycle. Today, the pill is widely used for birth control and cycle regulation. The focus of this diploma is on researching medicalisation of the menstrual cycle from different perspectives. The theoretical part includes an explanation of the menstrual cycle and medicalisation. It is introduced how the pharmaceutical companies, neoliberalism and consumerism influence the use of the pill and how we understand the menstrual cycle. This part also includes the feministic view on contraception. It finishes with information about the contraceptive pill and its history. The empirical part is based on narratives of four women regarding their treatment of the menstrual cycle by using the contraceptive pill. It presents their experience with medicalisation in relation to their menstrual cycles and their opinion on hormonal treatment of the conditions in the menstrual cycle. The purpose of this diploma was to research how women experience their menstrual cycle, how they perceive medicalisation and what is their attitude toward hormonal treatment of the conditions in the menstrual cycle. The goal was to get a better insight into how women view medicalisation, which is more common than ever, in this particular field.
