Abstract

Abstract:
In the thesis, I researched the model of user-centred design which is an effective approach to developing an interactive system, wherein we try to make the system as useful and usable as it can be. Several versions of the model exist, however they all have one thing in common: they all include the potential users in the development cycle as often as possible, ideally in every stage of the process. In the first part of the thesis, one of the versions of the user-centred design model is presented. The model consists of task analysis, requirements gathering, design, prototyping, evaluation, and implementation. In the second part, I tested the model by developing my own user interface which simulates the car dashboard. I built the system through all of the phases of the model and with multiple iterations of analysis, evaluation, and prototyping. The end product is a mobile application that runs on a tablet using Android operating system. With the help of the application, I was also able to conduct objective and subjective evaluation by comparing different versions of the interface. In objective evaluation, I measured the time and number of steps needed to complete a specific task. In subjective evaluation, I used two questionnaires, the NASA TLX (Task Load Index) and the UEQ (User Experience Questionnaire).
