In the past decades, we have been witnessing a fast and very successful rise of the political parties based on the far-right ideology in Europe. The causes for this phenomenon can be found in financial, social and migration crisis that have affected the majority of the continent but were left unanswered by national politics or European institutions. This resulted in the spread of general dissatisfaction with the current European political situation which additionally contributed to the rise of the far-right populist parties across all Europe. In this thesis I will examine the rise of these movements in Europe for the period from the fall of the Berlin wall until today. I will define the main characteristics of the parties that represent the third wave of the rise of the European far-right, and the impact of globalization, its processes, and the media on the spread of these movements. The main goal is to find out if there are any differences between Eastern and Western Europe when it comes to establishing these parties given that these countries have different political history.
