In Ireland, I conducted a practical exchange in Fighting Words. Fighting Words is an organization that offers free coaching and mentoring in creative writing and similar arts. The goal of the organization is to help children and adolescents to discover and nurture the power of their imagination and the ability of creative writing. By providing free workshops and programs, they want to offer opportunities for creativity and creative talent for as many children as possible. I chose this organization for the reason that I was interested in creative work with young people. In the theoretical introduction of the thesis, I focus on the main aspects of working with young people, a description of social cultural work, the definition of creativity, the research of alternative pedagogues and art therapy. These areas are set with the intention to show the areas and potentials of creative work with young people. Then follows the presentation of the organization. In the second or empirical part I try to research my own practice and evaluate the organization in order to determine the success of the institution, whether the approaches used by the institution are correct, have I successfully passed the practice, and what I have taken away from practice. In analyzing both areas, I relied on observation, group reflections and secondary material. I focused on the goals, process, efforts made and the effects of the organization and the treatment of my own practice through theoretical concepts. The main finding in the evaluation of the organization, and also the final grade of the work, is that it is a very successful model, but it needs finishing in certain areas (especially when dealing with involuntary users and not working with a population with mental illness). The main findings in my own practice are that although it was a wonderful experience where I learned to be more self-motivated, I have to become more educated in working with young people, especially teens and involuntary users. On the basis of the results, I formulated proposals for an organization; they rely on the expansion of their programs to work with other populations and education in areas that lack knowledge. I have also formulated suggestions for my own practice, where it will be necessary to focus on certain aspects.
