In my thesis I am researching if the housing unit, as an alternative form between the institution and home is suitable for living needs of adults with mental disorders and if it fulfills their expectations and needs or if is it just an extension of the institute and its form of living, that strives to control these people and add a sense of helplessness. With the help of the tenants living in the dislocated living unit i will acquire information about the current state of living in these living units, about the possibility of personal growth and integration in the environment. I will also be interested in satisfaction with the staff and their work in their autonomy, that should be higher with their inclusion in the living unit and if the living unit is really an appropriate form of living for adults with a mental disorder. In the theoretical part I write about the process of deinstitutionalization that led to today's forms of institutional care and housing units. I briefly presented important methods and forms of working with people with mental disorders and described the residential housing unit Poljče. In the research work, I focused on important topics for my research task, which included integration into the housing unit, the autonomy of users and their involvement in the environment, the relationships with roommates, employees, and relationships that are created outside the housing unit.
