The influence of solvents and ratio of reactants in many different reactions of diatrizoic acid with other reactants has been tested. The appearance of cocrystals and presence of halogen bonds in co-crystals was analysed by powder X-ray diffraction and single crystal structural X-ray diffraction. Cocrystals are solids that are crystalline single phase materials, they form a unique crystalline structure with unique properties, such as higher chemical stability, lower melting point, fast dissolving and higher solubility. Cocrystals can be used in many different fields and are also commonly used in pharmacy as they have unique properties. Diatrizoic acid is also used as a contrast medium in x-ray scan for visualization of inner organs and vessels.
