Transformer noise that results from the winding vibrations strongly depends on the surrounding magnetic field distribution. By changing the geometry of the windings, one can change the magnetic field distribution and affect the transformer noise. The effect of winding geometry change on vibrations can be analyzed with electromagnetic calculation, followed by a structural numerical model. We have developed a simplified numerical noise calculation method for the purpose of geometry optimization, that works much faster than conventional numerical methods, and used it in a geometry optimization loop.
