Film kot zgodovinski vir. Reprezentacija kraljice Viktorije Britanske v filmih

Diplomska naloga raziskuje reprezentacijo kraljice Viktorije Britanske v filmih. Obravnava tudi zgodovinarjev pristop do analiziranja zgodovinskih filmov, ki so lahko prav tako pomemben del pri spoznavanju zgodovinskih obdobij, dogodkov ali oseb. Viktorija je bila vse od leta 1911 privlačna osebnost, o kateri so snemali filme, saj je bilo do danes posnetih vsaj devet filmov, v katerih predstavlja Viktorija glavni lik. Po pregledu filmske teorije in najpogostejših pojmov v zvezi s filmi ter po obravnavi zgodovinskega filma kot možnega medija za spoznavanje zgodovine se v diplomski nalogi predvsem posvečamo analizi dveh filmov z naslovoma Mlada Viktorija (The Young Victoria) iz leta 2009 ter Viktorija Vélika (Victoria the Great) iz leta 1937. Analizi vsakega filma posebej sledita še primerjava obeh filmov ter utemeljitev, zakaj je vsak izmed filmov lahko kljub svojim pomanjkljivostim primeren za spoznavanje kraljice Viktorije Britanske.

Abstract

The thesis explores the representation of Queen Victoria in films. It explores the approach historians take, when trying to analyse historical films, which can also prove as an important medium when trying to explore a historical period, event or a person. Since 1911, Victoria was an appealing person to portray in films – up until today, there have been around nine movies made, where Victoria is the main character. After an overview of the film theory and its most common notions followed the examination of the possibility of films being a possible medium when trying to learn about history, the thesis focuses on the analysis of two movies. Their titles are The Young Victoria (2009) and Victoria the Great (1937). After the analysis of both movies, a comparison between the two follows, as well as an explanation of why both films can be, even though they can be imperfect, adequate films for the public that is trying to discover Queen Victoria.
