Introduction: The rapidly aging population presents hard challenges for families, healthcare providers, the government and entire communities. Older people have increasing number of serious health problems, so it is important to maintain and improve their health, not only to prevent chronic diseases, but also to contribute more to their independence and participation in family and social activities. Purpose: Obtaining data on the health status of citizens, health care and other related factors is important for planning people`s lives on different levels, so the local community impact benefits everyone. We wanted to explore the circumstances for the healthy life of the elderly in the municipality of Škofja Loka and to explore the web of responsibility for the health of the elderly between the community, the health system, and the individual's individual responsibility for his or her lifestyle. Methods: In our research, was used combination of different techniques, literature review, document analysis and interviews. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews. Open-ended main questions was used in conducting the interviews. In the research took part 10 individuals with specific social functions in the field of elderly care. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the date. Results: Qualitative content analysis revealed seven subjects: needs and roles of the elderly, physical activity of the elderly, social and living services for the elderly, health services for the elderly, organizations and their offer for the elderly, accessibility of the elderly to various services and networking of organizations and societies in the municipality. Individuals who participated in the survey presented the needs, roles and movement habits of the elderly. They showed the social, living and health conditions for the elderly, and explained to us what the needs are for improving current situation. They described their offer for the senior citizen and connections with other institutions in the municipality and stated what is accessibility like to these services. Discussion and conclusion: In general, the living conditions of the senior citizen in the municipality of Škofja Loka are good, especially for the active elderly. As we take a closer look, we come to the realization that there is a lot to be improved, especially for the less active and unhealthy elderly. There is a need to regulate the housing situation and to strengthen social services, especially volunteering. It is necessary to improve the provision of information to older people and to integrate them into the digital society. Transport for the elderly must be organised. It will be necessary in the future to increase the focus on educating older people on healthy lifestyles by nurses.
