As a part of this BA thesis, a wall calendar was created. Such calendars are still widely used today, despite the many electronic versions available on the market. Through the historic overview of the calendar, its usefulness and the origin of the contemporary calendar, this thesis presents the importance of the wall calendar today.
The main purpose and aim of this thesis was to use a public survey to study the wishes of modern users of various target groups and in turn create a wall calendar that would appeal to a wider population. In order to obtain the information regarding the attractiveness of the calendar and its individual components, the survey asked for opinions on several conceptual designs of graphic templates and ideas for individual elements. The survey asked about several typographic elements (type and font style, including colours), picture elements (photographs of various themes; black and white/colour depictions), date elements (date sizes; names of days and months; the graphic representations of holidays and weekends, etc.) and colour versions of the wall calendar.
Based on the answers gathered in the survey, a wall calendar was created that would supposedly please the majority of users of different age groups. We created an A3-size wall calendar with elements that were chosen by the largest number of respondents.
We were able to gather information on what our respondents like in a calendar and what type of calendar they would wish to have if they could choose. The respondents chose a diverse font (decorative typography), which had to be of the same colour as the colours selected from photographs belonging to the ‘nature’ theme. Dates had to be of a size that was visible from afar, Saturdays and Sundays had to be marked with a different colour, and holidays had to be further emphasised. The calendar’s background had to be in pastel colours and had to colour-match the photographs and typography.
