A reaction of Ni(NO3)2.6H2O with pyridine-2-one, C5H5NO, in ethanol or methanol at room temperature resulted in a solution from which by solvent evaporation green crystals of a new compound [Ni(C5H5NO)4(H2O)2](NO3)2 were obtained.
Reaction of Ni(NO3)2.6H2O and pyridine-2-one in acetonitrile at room temperature resulted in a suspension. The precipitate, [Ni(C5H5NO)4(H2O)2](NO3)2, was filtered off and dried in an exicator.
The composition and structure of crystals and precipitate were investigated using X-ray, structure analysis, IR spectroscopy, CHN and thermal analysis.
