In the present master's thesis, a personal view of women with intellectual disability on their reproductive rights is presented. The emphasis is mainly on sexual and reproductive autonomy of women with intellectual disability. An important factor in sexual and reproductive autonomy is also the environment, part of which are women with intellectual disability, which is why a sheltered workshop where women spend most of their workdays is presented in the thesis. The theoretical basis of the research lies in the feminist disability studies and the reproductive rights of women with disability, where themes of eugenics and sterilization, contraception and menstruation, and the sexuality of women with intellectual disability are presented.
The thesis is based on qualitative research and includes various methods of data collection, such as ethnographic observation in the sheltered workshop, ethnographic observation during the lecture on sexuality of people with intellectual disability, and the photovoice method. The photovoice method is a participatory method that allows women with intellectual disability to become more involved in the research process. In the thesis, it is used in the exploration of the social network of women with intellectual disabilities. In order to explore reproductive and sexual autonomy of women with intellectual disability, a focused group interview and the photovoice method are used. In the thesis conclusion, proposals for social work with intellectually disabled women are described.
