For a complete analysis of drive assemblies, it is necessary to measure the mechanical loads in operating conditions. The testing should be as close to the actual application as possible, and the mechanical properties of the meters must not materially affect the system, because the inertial mass and stiffness of the meter change the dynamic response of the system. We developed a torque meter for measuring the static load of the drive train at the test station. Based on the requirements, we prepared a systematic overview of possible design solutions, we examined patents as a source of ideas and checked if potential solutions were not already protected. For the best evaluated solutions we prepared a robust analysis of the meter design and then optimized the design. Verification of the chosen solution was carried out with a prototype. The required functionality was confirmed by systematic measurements and the final solution was documented with technical documentation.
