Technology is changing the way people, especially youth, listen to music. With the invention of the radio and portable devices music became part of everyday life. Digital revolution brought great changes to the music industry in terms of music distribution, creation, organization and consumption. Digital music format made music easily accessible which resulted emergence in illegal music distribution practices. Music streaming platforms that are currently youth’s most popular way of listening to music, were also established. In the diploma thesis I explore the current habits of listening to the music of Slovenian youth and the role of streaming platforms in shaping of these habits. In the theoretical part I will present technological development, changing of music listening, various ways of music use and streaming platforms, in which I will focus on their importance in the music industry, music distribution, choice and the categorization. In the empirical part, I will use qualitative research to identify how young people listen to music and what are their preferences when choosing a music listening platform.
