The suitability of public library spaces is often questionable. The public library is rarely located in a purpose-built space. The Črnomelj Library is located in the premises of the former student home, which were originally intended for schooling. The purpose of the research was to investigate, whether the premises of the Črnomelj Library are suitable for library activities. We have uncovered several inconsistencies, according to the legal provisions, which prescribe what the library space should be like. It is necessary to provide a more open space, to adapt the premises for all groups of users, and to provide appropriate conditions for the work of employees. We wanted to highlight the most disturbing factors, both by the discrepancies with the legal provisions, as well as from the users' perspectives, and from the point of view of the employees at the Črnomelj Library, adding tips on how the disparities could be eliminated.
