My thesis is dedicated to illustration, its role of applying visual communication and presenting images of reality and the imagination, that are created in the watercolour technique using vibrant colours, transparency and nuances to trigger special emotions and attract the viewer.
I have envisioned the creation of an illustrated Social Book of Recipes in the European Union, in which I present one traditional dish for each country. The book is intended for a family, in the narrower and broader sense, for all members of the family, who enjoy preparing meals together at home, with friends or on trips.
By employing a systematic approach and analysing a number of cookbooks, I found that the market is dominated by cookbooks, equipped with photographs.
After selecting the traditional dishes of individual EU Member States, I began the book-making process. With popular-scientific illustrations I wish to inform and attract attention. I also took into account the choice of typography, which has a strong visual meaning in itself. I have chosen to illustrate the cover with symbolic images of culinary details indicating the book’s contents and message.
Through such a book, full of diverse culinary recipes of individual EU Member States, I wished to portray the European family from this aspect, too.
