Abstract

Title:The intention of buying locally produced food
Abstract:
Nowadays, consumers are well informed about the offer because of the choice overload they are daily put to the test. Similar is also appearing in the field of nutrition, which has helped co-create a number of nutritional trends. Thus, the demand for local foods has arisen lately despite its higher cost. Recently, due to the higher importance of sustainability, environmental awareness has also increased. In line with these changes the local food is standing, while its indulgence can ease carbon footprint. At the same time, this is a way of reconnecting food producers and consumers, which brings a higher level of food traceability and underlying safety of the domestic food industry. The decision for local or imported foods depends on the degree of economic ethnocentrism of the individual, the perceived importance of the traceability, environmental awareness, or his own concern for health. Therefore, we examined what triggers someone to purchase at local producers. After careful review of existing definitions of local food, we were mainly focused on studying specific factors that can primary act on consumer's purchasing intention. The study confirmed the positive correlation only in two cases - the relationship between economic ethnocentrism and food traceability and the local food buying intentions.
