Piran town levelling network was established in the mid-1950s. A new measurement began due to the
lack of calculated and levelled Piran town levelling network which should have been implemented
within the restoration of the levelling networks in 2000. In the vicinity of the tide staff placed by ARSO
on the pier in Piran, new benchmark was stabilized which will act as a mean for connection of the Piran
tide gauge station when constructed. The new measurement also included all of the preserved
benchmarks. Within the graduation thesis, we used the method of geometric levelling in order to
measure the height difference among the three existing benchmarks. Height difference measurement
was corrected for influence of the temperature correction, meter of a pair of levelling staffs and a
difference of five levelling staffs, and we levelled the levelling network. The result of the levelling are
levelled altitudes of the benchmarks with the corresponding accuracies in the Koper vertical datum and
posteriori estimates of the accuracy of measuring altitude differences. At the end, we compared the
obtained altitudes with the altitudes from topographies, and calculated the difference of heights set in
the vertical datum of Koper and Bakar.
