Landslides are natural phenomena that are hard to prevent. However, we are working on the prediction of landslides and with that reducing the possibility of accidents. Landslides mostly damage the infrastructure and roads, but there are sometimes also fatal incidents. On one hand, landslides endanger objects, and on the other hand, every mitigation is quite a big financial stake, as for the individuals, as for the state.
In my diploma I documented sixteen landslides at the area of Poljane in municipality Rečica ob Savinji- my homeregion. I decided for this topic because I remember the landslide in 2007 in this area, and the landslide endangered a family house, and the family had to leave their home. I analyzed the data and I established that the area of Poljane is subjected to landsliding during extreme precipitation. The majority of landslides are a consequence of precipitation and human's spatial intervention in the environment. Although I have to stress that in this municipality, the mitigation of landslides that threaten residential objects and/or infrastructure are well taken care of. From sixteen landslides, 9 of them are completely mitigated. One of the landslides is still being mitigated, one is stabilized and five of them are still active, but they are not dangerous for the people or objects. The majority of landslides didn't cause much damage, with the exception of the landslide at Dol-Suha, where it partly buried and damaged the house.
