Master's thesis discusses the floods on Planinsko polje. Analysis is based on the overview of all available archival sources and literature, on the collection of water levels data at the gauging station Haasberg on Planinsko polje and on the statistical analysis of the obtained data. Analysis on water levels includes the estimation of descriptive statistic and trend, frequency and probability analysis.
Archival data set of Unica River water levels at the gauging station Haasberg have been obtained in the Archive of Republic of Slovenia, in the Central Humanities Library and in the Slovenian Environment Agency archives on surface waters. All reconstructed data are available on the daily basis starting in 1841 and ending in 2016. The main analysis includes data from 1884 to 2016.
With the help of data analysis, I established that prevailing floods have lower water levels and last for shorter period of time. The maximum and average annual and seasonal water levels have no trends through time. Frequency and probability analysis confirmed that the increase in flooding also increases the return period of the flood and showed that the increase in the length of the selected period increases the probability of one flood in the selected period. During the floods longer periods prevail, by increasing the number of days of flooding, the probability of flooding is reduced.
