This diploma thesis features the design of an ultrafiltration system, intended for the preparation of high-quality technological water, which is equipped with all the necessary key components, and has been upgraded with a conventional filtration process, a system for recycling backwashing water and a control system for data acquisition, in order to achieve higher efficiency and provide a cost estimation for the designed system. Furthermore, it includes an analysis of the responses of ultrafiltration systems to various feed water parameters, a revision of ultrafiltration membranes cleaning methods and their impact on the efficiency and operating life of these systems, a presentation of the advantages of newer ultrafiltration systems in comparison with previous ones, and guidelines for the maintenance of ultrafiltration systems, based on the findings, featured in this thesis.
