Today, people tend to migrate everywhere in the world. A person's identity written on a piece of document is the only thing allowing us to cross borders effortlessly. In the Republic of Slovenia this document is called the identity card. It plays a strong role in determining who we are, and in achieving social order. Its purpose is to identify and acknowledge our existence and at the same time confirm that we are citizens of a sovereign nation.
In order to obtain an identity card it is necessary for the citizen to enter the application processing procedure. The process is led by a public servant. He is also responsible for successfully filling out all necessary forms that will provide the applicant with an identity card. Behind every application therefore lies a business process that is regularly subjected to change. This is also the main subject of this thesis.
The purpose of our thesis is to learn, describe and present the application processing procedure for obtaining a personal identification card. In the first part of the thesis we are introduced to theory where we learn about business processes, chosen organisation and the importance of identity cards. In the second part we are introduced to practical work where we describe and test the process with the help of a simulation done in a software application. The process is then renewed and tested again. Based of the acquired data, we then describe and interpret the results and present our findings on whether or not we have been successful in our redesign.
