Introduction: For the elderly, the quality of their life today is very important. It is essential that they are productive and healthy throughout this era of life as well. With age, individual activities are performed more slowly, while the sense of balance, vision and hearing deteriorate. Falls represent one of the main problems of older people. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to investigate the role of a healthcare worker after a hip fracture, what devices they recommend people use, what, according to the participants, are the risk factors for falls, and what difficulties the participants who were self-sufficient before, are now faced with. Methods: A qualitative method of research was used. An overview of literature was conducted, based on which we prepared the starting point for a qualitative research through interviews. Six people who were treated for hip fractures at the Center for Medical Rehabilitation in Dolenjske Toplice, voluntarily participated in the study. These interviews were carried out in August, 2018. The interviews consisted of two parts. In part one, the participants answered questions about demography, while in part two, they answered eleven open questions in which participants state their subjective experiences, thought, attitudes and feelings about their accident. The obtained results were compared with the results found in scientific literature. Results: The most common cause of falls was the loss of balance, carelessness, fatigue, and dizziness. The consequences of the fall were experienced in various ways – pain, dependence on others, limited movement, etc. The most commonly used mobility aids were walkers and crutches. Most of the interviewees were able to bathe, dress, and perform household chores by themselves. The users are aware that falls can be prevented with better physical fitness and balance, good muscular strength and adaptations in both domestic and external environments. Discussion and conclusion: With the help of research questions, we established the importance of a healthcare worker on the path to recovery. Using the appropriate devices contributes to a faster recovery and shortens the time of bed rest required. Among the most common factors that lead to a fall, are the following: carelessness or inattentiveness, loss of balance, dizziness, and fatigue. The fall itself, however, can cause a lot of inconvenience, especially as is the case with older people, whose recovery takes considerable time. We came to the conclusion that hip fractures are a very frequent occurrence and, what is more, the rehabilitation is a lengthy process. The speed of recovery is affected by the motivation and the will of the injured person.
