Abstract
8. novembra 2016 so Združene države Amerike dobile že 45. predsednika po vrsti. Gre za osebo, ki predstavlja eno izmed najpomembnejših funkcij tako znotraj države kot po svetu, saj ima država predsedniški politični sistem, kar pomeni, da ima le-ta poleg predsedniške funkcije tudi izvršilno moč. Za predsedniško mesto sta se potegovala republikanski kandidat Donald Trump in demokratska kandidatka Hillary Clinton. V zadnjih desetletjih opažamo vse večjo vlogo medijev v volilni kampanji. Živimo namreč v dobi, kjer nam mediji preko različnih kanalov vsak dan posredujejo informacije in nas seznanjajo z najnovejšimi informacijami, predajajo sporočila kandidatov in nam predstavljajo njihove cilje ter osebnost kandidata. Cilj pričujočega diplomskega dela je preučiti televizijska soočenja in pomembnost predvolilnih soočenj za končno odločitev volivcev. Skozi analizo treh televizijskih soočenj obeh kandidatov, ki so potekala 26. septembra, 10. oktobra ter 20. oktobra 2016, smo ugotovili, da imajo predvolilna soočenja zelo majhen neposreden vpliv na končen izid volitev, saj je Hillary Clinton v času predvolilnih soočenj, sodeč po javnomnenjskih raziskavah, imela večjo podporo kot njen protikandidat Donald Trump, vendar ji na koncu ni uspelo zmagati. Poleg tega smo ugotovili, da so televizijska soočenja za 45. ameriške predsedniške volitve zajemala tematike, ki se navezujejo tudi na področja izven delovanja predsednika države, ter da javno medijsko favoriziranje Clintonove v predsedniški kampanji leta 2016 v ZDA le-tej ni prineslo zmage.

Title:US presidential elections 2016 an analysis of the impact of preelection confrontations
Abstract:
On November 8, 2016, the United States of America received its 45th president in turn. It is a person who represents one of the most important people both within the country and the world because the state has a presidential political system, which means that in addition to the presidential function, the state has executive power. Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton joined the presidential seat. In recent decades, we have seen the increasing role of the media in the election campaign. We live in an era where the media, through various channels, provide us with information every day and inform us about the latest events, deliver messages from candidates, and present us their goals and the personality of the candidate. The aim of this graduation thesis is to examine television debates or confrontation and the importance of the pre-election confrontations to the final decision through the empirical part. Through an analysis of the three television debates of the two candidates, held on September 26, October 10, and October 20, 2016, we found that pre-election confrontations have a very small or even no direct impact on the final outcome of the election, as Hillary Clinton had more support than her protagonist Donald Trump, judging by public media research during the pre-election period, but eventually failed to win. In addition, we found that televised confrontations of the 45th US presidential elections covered topics that also relate to areas beyond responsability, and that Clinton's publicly-favored Clinton's presidential campaign in 2016 did not bring victory to the US.
