The theoretical part of my master thesis summarizes how the constant pressure to perform is experienced by critic Jan Verwoert. It is presented how - in his view - it is possible to defy the pressure of contemporary culture. It is described how the pressure that comes from culture and society affects our mental state, as well as our physical health and how well we are able to cope with stress according to our personality traits. The opinion of sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, who is trying to answer the question on how the social order is established, is also given. The work of Gerard Wajcman is analyzed in order to facilitate my understanding of contemporary art. Through the exploration of modern art and the Holocaust phenomenon, he seeks and finds an answer to the question on what is a key object of the twentieth century.
The practical part of my master thesis explains the thinking that led to the implementation of my project and to the creation of a herbarium. The course and presentation of the photographic series and the book Natura are described. The whole project is presented, as are the plants that are found in the herbarium.
