Abstract

Title:Reliability and validity of the Slovenian version of the survey “Pediatric Voice Handicap Index”
Abstract:
The purpose of this master thesis is to verify, that the Slovenian translation of the Pediatric Voice Handicap Index is a valid and reliable instrument, that can be used in practice. Seventy-five parents of children with or without voice problems participated in the study. The internal consistency of the translated pVHI was checked with Cronbach alpha coefficient. The test was validated with the Lawshe test by eight experts from the field of voice disorders. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was good (Cronbach alfa = 0.803). The Lawshe test showed disagreement of the experts in relation to several items from the questionnaire, which is derived from differences in cultural environment. The statistical test showed that the results of the pVHI of the control group were significantly lower than the results of the group of children with voice disorders. The factor analysis classified the variables of the pVHI into three subgroups which were more or less similar to the subgroups of the original questionnaire. Only the variables of the physical subtest completely corresponded to the similar group classified after factors analysis. Therefore, the questionnaire is properly translated and represents a valid, reliable instrument that can be used for the Slovenian speaking population of children.
