Theoretical part includes historic review of gender roles, specifically gender roles within families, Parental Protection and Family Benefits Act, meaning of paternity leave on micro and macro level. To explain trends on the usage of paternity leave and parental leave from father, what kind of reasons are there for (not) using this leave, I use different scientific researches and statistical data. I also compare Slovenian Parental Protection and Family Benefits Act with Icelandic, Swedish and Norwegian Family Act. With pilot project Očetje in delodajalci v akciji and descriptions of propositions of several authors who study family policy, I display the possibilities that can increase the usage of paternity and parental leave in Slovenia. Consequences or effects of uniform use of parental leave from both parents and active fatherhood are shown with comparisons, research analysis and data. Secondary researches and statistical data are used to support my research. The latter contains methodology description, sample, data interpretation and analysis. With secondary researches, statistical data and my primary research I try to confirm or deny leading hypothesis.
