Abstract
Pod zunanje dejavnike tveganja uvrščamo športne dejavnike, zaščitno opremo, športno opremo in okolje.

Title:The frequency of injury and mechanisms of injury in handball
Abstract:
Injuries are a part of each sports activity, professional or recreational. Handball is due to the specific characteristics of different actions of players during the game (rapid changes of direction, contact situation, a great number of throws etc.) one of those sports, where players are often exposed to injuries. The most exposed parts for injuries during training and matches are the knee-, ankle-, shoulder- and elbow joint and the head. The mechanisms of injury are different, as well as the risk factors (internal and external), which influence the injury development. In the first part of the Master’s thesis, we reviewed the existing literature, where authors analyse the issue of injuries in handball and their frequency. In the second part, we analysed sources about the mechanisms of injury in handball and summarized the reflection of authors about this subject. Based on information, obtained through the review of literature, we can conclude that during handball training additional attention should be given to correct execution of different action, like dribbling, jumps and landings, shots, changes in the movement direction and playing with mutual contact of the players. At the same time, we should systematically introduce professionally and properly selected and structured preventive drills to the training. A combination of both is likely to contribute to the reduction of risks for the development of injuries in handball. Systematic preventive drills and learning of the correct technique of handball movements have to be implemented already in younger age categories.
