The subject of this master thesis is a Baroque painting entitled Lamentation (Christ in a grave) painted by unknown author. Throughout the history, already mentioned work of art, has already been under several restoration treatments, which can be seen through the past documentation and research. The impurities, yellowed and darkened varnish, missing paint layer and canvas deformations, such as holes have severely damaged the paintings aesthetic point of view. Moreover due to the bad condition of the painting also the rest of the original is threatened, therefor the conservation-restoration treatment is needed. Throughout the master’s thesis I present the dilemmas in varnish removal, conservation-restoration of the canvas and procedures, which affect the paintings final presentation. The procedures were based on previously conducted tests.
