Proton therapy is becoming more and more utilized. Consecutively, the need
for specific software to execute the therapy is on the rise as well. Developing
a control system for proton therapy that can support a great variety of devices
is complex and time consuming. Besides, it is still necessary to ensure that
communication between the control system and the devices is flawless.
In presented master’s thesis we have explained and described the development
process for the controllers of the proton therapy devices and their integration into
the control system based on a practical example.
In the introduction we describe the proton therapy from the physical and
robotic perspective, explain the need for complex devices and describe all of the
main parts needed for proton therapy. This is followed by a presentation of models
used in the project for demonstration of development process and the proton
therapy itself. We also describe the control system in which we are integrating the
devices and present the gathered software requirement for successful integration.
Lastly, we present the architecture, describe communication protocols u
